It is also required for expansion of panel movement. The tool is designed to hang on the tongue portion of the plank. Once in place and hanging, it sits perfectly flat and flush on the plank. The shoulder on the tool holds the clip in place during installation and creates the ideal spacing between the plank and the clip. It also prevents the clip from moving out of position while installing the screw and main- taining proper alignment. Once the Unity Clip inserted onto the Speed Spacer Tool, a 1 mm space will be kept between the tongue of the plank and the Clip while screwing the Clip in place.This is essential for expansion of the material. The handle portion of the Spectrum Speed Spacer Tool can be used as a gauge to the gap between two planks at the vertical joints, at a consistent 8mm / 5/16”. The tool is designed to set the clip from the edge to the proper distance. This prevents the clip from being visible after installation. Once the screw is in place, slide the tool away and remove it. You are now ready to place the next plank and use the tool again to create the proper joint spacing.
