THE SPECTRUM APPROACH
Spectrum manufactures products that we feel are better for the environment than alternatives in their respective categories. At the heart of our environmental product strategy, Spectrum focuses on four key elements: Durability, low-carbon materials, low-carbon manufacturing processes and End-user safety.
Durability
Our main driver of environmental sustainability is Longevity and Durability:
The longer the product lasts, the longer the period of time to spread the environmental impact associated with the production of raw materials and the manufacturing process.
Because our products are manufactured primarily with phenolic panels which are resistant to moisture, heat, and many kinds of chemical damage They are, by definition, extremely durable and long-lasting products.
By needing fewer replacements, long-lasting products entail less use of resources, lower emissions of pollutants and a smaller amount of waste than short-lifespan goods.
Additionally, our products long expected use life is complemented by low levels of maintenance: Our products require very little maintenance, meaning fewer resources are required over their lifetime to maintain their performance. This reduction in resources contributes to their overall sustainability.
Low-carbon Materials
All of our core phenolic panels inputs have robust Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and have performed through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Click to Request Documentation.
As our core material is 70% wood product, sourced from sustainable sources, Spectrum products act as a source for natural carbon capture.
CATEGORY | FACADES | LOCKERS | WALL LININGS | WORK SURFACES |
---|---|---|---|---|
Spectrum | Phenolic Low-Carbon | Phenolic Low-Carbon | Phenolic Low-Carbon | Phenolic Low-Carbon |
Key Alternate | Masonry High Carbon | Steel High Carbon | Ceramic Tile High Carbon | Epoxy High Carbon |
Low Carbon Manufacturing Process
Spectrum’s manufacturing process focuses on reduction of CO2 emissions through 3 key strategies.
- Sustainable sources of Power.
93% of our power used in the fabrication and manufacturing process are renewable sourced from non-fossil fuel sources - Lowering overall Power consumptions.
We have reduced energy consumption of our facilities by 37% and continue to find opportunities to lower total overall power consumption. - Reduction of waste through optimization.
Reducing waste in our process is a key to both environmental and economic sustainability. 97% of our inbound packaging material is reused and total product material waste is below 4%.
End-user safety
Spectrum Products have low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions, contributing to a healthier and safer environment. GreenGuard Certification available.
Because of the inherent properties of phenolic panels, Spectrum products also do not contribute to mold or bacterial growth and are safe for food grade applications.
